Autumn Essentials: Microgreens Balm and Oil Cleanser

autumn essentials microgreens

October often means rain, cold, a change of wardrobe and yet more usual than not…chapped dry lips. That’s why today we will introduce what we think is an autumn essential: a homemade microgreens lip balm. And since healthy, glowing skin deserves extra care this season, we’ll also show you how to make a DIY microgreens oil cleanser using the same formula. Simple, sustainable, and effective. Let’s get started with your new fall beauty must-haves!

Microgreens Balm

Easy to do with things you have at home. All you need is less than an hour and microgreens you grew days before that.

Ingredients

  • 1 handful of microgreens (spinach, sunflower, or pea shoots work best)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp beeswax or carnauba wax
  • 3/4 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Infuse the oil
    • Wash and dry the microgreens.
    • Chop finely or crush them.
    • Put the greens and olive oil in a small saucepan.
    • Gently warm over very low heat (not boiling) for 20–30 minutes to release nutrients.
  2. Strain
    • Remove from heat, let cool a little, then strain out the microgreens using a fine sieve or clean cloth.
  3. Melt the coconut oil and wax in a double boiler over low heat.
  4. Mix with the microgreens oil and pour into a storage container.
  5. Let it cool

Notes: Keep in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

Microgreen Oil Cleanser

Ingredients

  • Your microgreen-infused oil (from the balm recipe)
  • Castor oil (adds deep cleansing power, especially for oily/acne-prone skin)
  • Optional: a few drops vitamin E oil (for extra antioxidants)

Recommended:

  • Oily Skin: 1/3 castor oil 2/3 microgreens infused oil
  • Combination Skin: 1/4 castor oil 3/4 microgreens infused oil
  • Dry Skin: a very small amount of castor oil added to the microgreens infused oil.

Instructions

  1. Mix 3 tbsp microgreen oil + 1 tbsp castor oil.
  2. Stir well and store in a pump bottle or small jar.

How to use:

  • Start with a dry face and dry hands.
  • Massage about 1 tbsp of oil into your skin using circular motions for 1–2 minutes (focus on areas with makeup or clogged pores).
  • Steam & wipe. Soak a clean washcloth in warm water, wring out, and place it over your face for 20–30 seconds. Gently wipe away the oil and impurities.
  • Rinse. Splash with lukewarm water. You can follow with a mild foaming cleanser for a “double cleanse.”

Notes: If made with well-dried microgreens and stored in a dark glass jar, away from light and heat, it can last about 3–6 months.

But always check for changes in smell, color, or texture to see if it is time to substitute.
