🌱 3 places from Greece: 2 women and 1 man. Five training days on an Atlantic island, about green opportunities for young people in isolated areas of Europe. Terceira, Azores, Portugal, 24–30 November 2026.
This November, EVEC Athens is looking for a team of three from Greece to join GREPOLATED 2.0, an Erasmus+ training course in the Azores about green opportunities for young people who live in isolated areas of Europe. You don’t need a background in youth work, and there’s no upper age limit: the course is also open to teachers, entrepreneurs and people who simply want to explore these themes.
Your stay and your meals are covered by the organisers, with the support of Erasmus+. Your flight works differently: you pay for the ticket yourself, once it has been approved, and it’s reimbursed after the course, based on travel distance and available budget. The organisers ask you to stay below €500. Insurance is not covered: it’s yours to arrange and pay for.

✈️ How your flight works
This is the first thing to understand: you buy your plane ticket yourself, with your own money, and it’s reimbursed after the course. Travel costs are covered based on travel distance and available budget, and the organisers say it’s important to stay below €500 for the ticket from Athens to Terceira.
- Step 1: you’re selected. EVEC chooses the Greek team and the organisers confirm it. Nobody buys anything before that.
- Step 2: you find a flight and send it to us. Look for Athens to Terceira Lajes Airport (TER), arriving Tuesday 24 November and leaving Monday 30 November. There are no direct flights: expect at least one connection, often through Lisbon.
- Step 3: we ask for approval. EVEC takes your option to the organisers and tells you their answer.
- Step 4: you buy the ticket. Only now, with your own money, and below €500, as the organisers ask.
- Step 5: you keep every document. Boarding passes, e-tickets, invoices and proof of payment. Without boarding passes there is no reimbursement.
- Step 6: you take part in the whole course. Travel isn’t reimbursed if you arrive late, leave early or don’t attend all sessions.
- Step 7: you’re reimbursed after the course. What you get back is based on travel distance and available budget. It may not be immediate, so you need to be able to carry the cost for a while.
⚠️ Before you buy: a ticket bought without the organisers’ approval will not be covered, even if it costs less than €500. Wait until we tell you it’s approved.
What do tickets cost? When the organisers checked on 28 October, they saw options between about €400 and €500. Prices change, so that’s a guide, not a promise.
Don’t live in Athens? Tell us in your motivation which airport you’d fly from. The €500 guide is for Athens to Terceira, so we’d need to ask the organisers about any other route before you buy.
Want to stay longer on Terceira? Portugal’s Erasmus+ National Agency allows up to 2 days before or 2 days after. The organisers are fine with it unless it makes the ticket more expensive than the regular dates (when they looked, 22 November seemed even cheaper). The ticket still needs approval before you buy it, so send us those dates in Step 2. On those days you organise your own stay, and all costs other than the travel are yours.
🌱 What is this Erasmus+ training course in the Azores about?
GREPOLATED 2.0 is organised by AJITER, the Youth Association of Terceira Island, and co-funded by the European Union through Erasmus+. Its full title is Promote the Development of Green Opportunities for Youth living in Isolated Areas of Europe. In Erasmus+ terms it’s a training course, a professional development activity.
AJITER is a non-profit created in April 2003. It’s based on Terceira, works for all 9 islands of the Azores, and helps young people take an active part in their own communities.
Why isolated areas? The Azores are out in the Atlantic, a European outermost region, so the place is part of the subject: the course builds on the islands’ geography and on initiatives already under way there. AJITER’s role is to connect Europe, young people facing isolation, and the initiatives that help local communities become greener.
The aim is to help young people build knowledge, skills and attitudes on climate change and sustainable development, as a step towards a climate-neutral EU by 2050. You’ll also learn how to encourage people to change how they live: their preferences, their cultural values, their awareness of sustainable development, their consumption habits and their lifestyles.
🗓️ Five training days, one by one
This is the provisional programme. The organisers say it may change, because it’s based on their last activity.
Tuesday 24 November is the arrival day and Monday 30 November is the departure day.
On a normal day, breakfast is 08:30–09:00 and sessions start at 09:30. Lunch is 12:20–14:30, dinner is 20:00–21:00, and there are two coffee breaks.
✨ What you’ll work on
The project’s main topics are green practices and virtual components and/or digital technology. In the provisional programme, these stand out:
💸 What’s covered, and what you pay first
✅ Accommodation: dormitories at the Scout Centre, with linen and towels, fully covered by the organisers with the support of Erasmus+
✅ Food: 3 meals a day and 2 coffee breaks, fully covered in the same way
Travel works differently: you pay first. It’s reimbursed after the course, based on travel distance and available budget, if the ticket was approved before you bought it, you kept your boarding passes, and you arrived on time, stayed to the end and attended all sessions.
⚠️ Not covered: your insurance, which you must have during the project and arrange yourself; a ticket bought without approval; your stay and everything else on extra days before or after the project, apart from the flight itself; and personal spending.
🏕️ Where you’ll stay
You’ll stay at the Centro de Formação do Belo Jardim, the Scouts Training Centre on Terceira. Some of the sessions and some leisure activities take place at the same venue.
You’ll sleep in dormitories with bunk beds, in rooms of 4 people: same gender, mixed nationalities. Linen and towels are provided.

Terceira is an island of the Azores, Portugal, in the Atlantic. The central zone of Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
The weather at this time of year is mild but unpredictable: a mix of sun, wind and occasional rain during the day, usually 14–20 °C.
👀 Is this you?
We’re looking for three people to go to Terceira as the Greek team. You’re a fit if you:
- are over 18;
- live in Greece, anywhere (you don’t need to come from an island or an isolated area);
- are a youth worker or someone else who works with young people, a teacher, an entrepreneur, or a person willing to explore these themes (experience in youth work is not required);
- have enough English to join discussions and group work (this is our own request);
- are free for the whole of 24–30 November;
- can pay for the ticket first and wait for the reimbursement;
- will have insurance and a valid ID card or passport.
There’s no upper age limit. If you’re over 18 and the theme interests you, you’re welcome.
Why 2 women and 1 man? The organisers require gender balance, so that’s how we’ll select. The whole group is up to 14 participants from up to 7 European countries, with 2 or 3 people from each. The organisers still have to confirm how many places each partner organisation gets, so our 3 places aren’t final until they do.
🤝 What we ask of the Greek team
- Every session. Participation in all sessions is required.
- An intercultural evening. Each national group prepares a short presentation about its country (culture, traditions, fun facts) and a small interactive activity, like a game, a quiz or a dance. Bring typical snacks, sweets or drinks to share, plus a flag or other cultural items. You may also be invited to help prepare a typical dinner on your evening.
- At least one device per group. Your team must have at least 1 laptop or tablet, and everyone is strongly encouraged to bring one.
- Sharing the results afterwards. This is mandatory for every organisation in the project, so back home you’ll help EVEC share what you learned.
Heads up: this is a training course, not a holiday on Terceira. Miss sessions and your travel won’t be reimbursed.
🎒 Pack this
- 👕 Comfortable clothes for the daily activities.
- 🧥 A waterproof jacket or raincoat.
- 🧶 Layers, such as hoodies and sweaters.
- 👟 Comfortable shoes, preferably water-resistant.
- 💻 A laptop or tablet, for group work.
- 🪪 Your ID card or passport.
- 📄 Your insurance documents.
- 🇬🇷 Everything for the intercultural evening: snacks, a flag, your presentation and your activity.
You can leave towels and bed linen at home: both are provided.
📝 How to apply
Apply through the EVEC Athens application form, the same form we use for all our calls: the button is just below these tips. EVEC selects the Greek team. In the form’s motivation field, start with the word “Terceira”, then tell us:
- whether you’re an active member of the EVEC Volunteers Academy, and the email you use there;
- what you do and with whom: youth work, teaching, a business, or simply your interest in the theme;
- one green idea or practice you care about, or the isolated, island or rural community you know;
- how you’ll share what you learn back home;
- your nationality, and the airport you’d fly from if it isn’t Athens;
- confirmation that you’re free 24–30 November, can pay for the ticket first and wait for the reimbursement, will have insurance, and have a valid ID card or passport.
Aim for 200–350 words. Specific beats long.
📌 Important: submitting the form doesn’t confirm your place. You’re in once EVEC Athens has selected you and the organisers have confirmed you. Don’t buy a ticket before that, and buy it only once it has been approved.
